Do you find it difficult to discuss body image with young people? If so, you’re not alone.

Even though it can be difficult, addressing this topic with youth during adolescence is key to their development. Youth-serving professionals, healthcare providers, and trusted-adults have a unique opportunity to promote positive body image and self-acceptance with people of any age.

Learn about key messaging for positive body image from the latest Physician's Weekly article by Lauren Ranalli, MPH (she/hers), ETR’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs.

In five tips, she details how providers can communicate about weight, health, and body size to foster self-esteem and body confidence with patients.

According to the California Department of Public Health, rural Californians are more likely to be exposed to secondhand smoke at home and work than urban residents are.

For solutions to secondhand smoke exposure in rural communities of Northern California, check out Communities Energized for Health (CEH), a project of ETR.

They create meaningful partnerships with communities most impacted to:
👉 Reduce secondhand smoke exposure in multiunit housing
👉 Promote smokefree healthcare centers
👉 Provide free cessation resources for community members to quit on their own terms

Today is International Human Rights Day.

This annual observance is dedicated to how human rights can empower individuals and communities to forge a more peaceful, equitable, and sustainable future.

ETR envisions a world where everyone can achieve their best health.

This vision is bold, but we use our Health Equity Framework (HEF), which identifies health inequities as preventable differences in health outcomes closely linked to social, economic, and environmental conditions.

The HEF encourages professionals to think beyond traditional approaches that focus on individual behaviors and choices.

For this International Human Rights Day, reflect on how you can be a force for equity-centered change with our HEF reflection tool.

There are a few days left in Red Ribbon Week!

This annual awareness is dedicated to inspiring individuals to play their part in fostering safe, healthy, and drug-free communities.

For decades, ETR has worked extensively to create resources, services, and evidence-based programs that provide youth with the skills to avoid drug use, resist social pressures, and evaluate unsafe usage.

Our work in alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) supports the health and well-being of youth and communities nationally, and we’re proud to have our resources utilized for this awareness and beyond.

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), young people ages 12 to 20 drink 3% of all alcohol consumed in the United States.

To decrease underage drinking and the adverse social and health effects that come with it, parents, caregivers, and trusted adults can have pivotal conversations with youth to shape the health outcomes of their lives.

You can prepare for the discussion by checking out our latest blog, “7 Tips for Talking to Teens About Drinking Alcohol.”

Make a meaningful impact on the young people in your lives by keeping the conversation at the forefront with these tips in mind.
