Tobacco product waste (TPW) is the trash and pollution associated with discarded and used tobacco products.

TPW contributes large amounts of plastic waste into our environment.

Plastic waste is burned globally at an alarming rate of 40%, causing toxins to pollute the air.

This Air Quality Awareness Week, it’s important to recognize air quality and environmental justice go hand in hand.

Learn more about the environmental impact the tobacco industry plays at UNDO's website.

Today is National Grief Awareness Day.

It is important to recognize the ways in which our emotions influence our behavior when it comes to tobacco use. Research done by Harvard University has shown that sadness is associated with increased addictive substance use.

This highlights the need to better understand how emotions drive substance cravings and consumption, as well as how this can be applied to tobacco prevention work.

Do you know the benefits of smokefree multi-unit housing?

In addition to decreasing tobacco litter smokefree policies also:

➡️ Reduce secondhand smoke: secondhand smoke travels between units through air vents, electrical outlets, windows, and tiny cracks in walls.

➡️ Lower fire risk: smoking-related fires in multi-unit housing cause over $173 million in property damages each year.

➡️ Prevent thirdhand smoke: sticky, highly toxic particles linger after smoking stops, which causes them to cling to walls and ceilings.

For more information, check out our material “Go Smokefree with Your Housing Property.” This two-sided fact card, meant for property owners and managers, emphasizes that smokefree policies protect both property values and tenants’ health.

This item and hundreds of others are FREE to download and print for web users who have a free and secure TECC account.
